Puck’s Garden: Flower Care


 Once the stems of cut flowers are added to a vase, bacteria start to colonize the open ends of the stems and block the channels through which water enters. You can take steps to lengthen the vase life of your flowers, therefore, enjoying your blooms in your home longer.
 

  1. Your bucket, vessel, or vase should be clean enough to drink from.

  2. Remove any and all foliage below the water line.

  3. Recut stems at an angle

  4. Use flower food to control bacteria and feed the cut stems

  5. Replace the water every 2 - 3 days

  6. Keep flowers away from ripening fruit, heat, and direct sunlight
